ALCON: Need your Support

Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy

This opportunity to give back was shared with the Halifax Area Chapter of MOAA by one of our recent guest speakers, MAJ Greg Wilson in September. We are proud to highlight the impactful work of the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering wounded veterans through the game of baseball. You can also follow their mission and stories on Facebook and Instagram @woundedwarriorua.

This month, they’re hosting an online fundraising auction — explore and support their efforts here: Wounded Warrior UA Auction.

Their next major event will take place November 8–9 in New Smyrna Beach, where about 30 Wounded Veterans will come together for a weekend baseball tournament at the Sports Complex near the airport. Donations of water, Gatorade, snacks, or food are greatly appreciated to help keep our warriors refreshed and supported between games and during recovery.

Cyber Security

The Halifax Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is making significant strides in enhancing cyber security awareness within the community. Recognizing the growing importance of cyber security in today’s digital age, the chapter has launched a comprehensive training program aimed at equipping community members with essential skills to protect themselves online.

The training sessions are led by a team of highly experienced instructors, including Colonel Kim Ramos, Colonel Baccroft McKittrick, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Pierre Louis, Geoffrey Davis, Captain Drew Hoffman, and Captain Mary McClendon. Each instructor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from their distinguished military careers, ensuring that participants receive top-notch education on cyber security best practices.

The program covers a wide range of topics, from basic online safety measures to advanced techniques for defending against cyber threats. Participants learn how to identify phishing scams, secure their personal information, and protect their devices from malware. The training also emphasizes the importance of staying informed about the latest cyber threats and continuously updating security measures.

By offering this training, the Halifax Area Chapter of MOAA is not only helping to safeguard the community but also fostering a culture of vigilance and proactive defense against cyber threats. This initiative underscores the chapter’s commitment to serving and protecting the community, reflecting the core values of the MOAA.
