TAKE ACTION ALERT!
📌Military spouses face a persistent 21% unemployment rate—the highest among any population tracked by DoD. Frequent relocations, unpredictable schedules, and limited job markets near military bases all contribute to this ongoing crisis. Despite having higher levels of education and valuable skills, employers are often reluctant to hire military spouses, knowing they may move within two to three years.
Adding military spouses as a target group under the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) would help offset hiring costs and incentivize businesses to recognize the value these talented workers bring. Congress took similar action to combat veteran unemployment—now it’s time to apply that same proven strategy to support military spouses.

Advocacy in Action 2024
The Halifax Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is encouraging its members to actively participate in the National MOAA’s TAKE ACTION priorities. These priorities are essential for the purpose of advocating on behalf of military servicemembers, veterans, and their families. By participating in these endeavors, members can ensure that their voices are heard regarding critical legislative matters.
Signing up for the Legislative Action Center is one of the most effective methods by which members can contribute. This platform enables members to effortlessly communicate with their local legislators and demonstrate their backing for critical legislative initiatives. By writing to their representatives, members can contribute to the shaping of policy decisions that affect the military community.
The National MOAA’s TAKE ACTION priorities encompass a variety of issues, including the protection of military health care benefits, the provision of equitable compensation for servicemembers, and the support of veterans’ access to quality care. We establish these priorities to protect the rights and benefits of the military community and to address their most urgent requirements.
It is an excellent opportunity for members of the Halifax Area Chapter to engage in the Legislative Action Center on the MOAA website. Here, they can access resources to assist them in effectively communicating with their legislators, including template letters and information on current legislative issues. Members can significantly influence the future of military policy by dedicating a few minutes to sending a message.
Members can continue their advocacy and service to the military community by supporting the National MOAA’s Take Action priorities. It is the mission of the Halifax Area Chapter to amplify the collective voice of its members and energize them in the halls of Congress.
